AsyncRAT and GravityRAT are two (2) powerful remote access tools used by cybercriminals to control and spy on infected devices. AsyncRAT is favored for its features like keylogging and screen capturing, often deployed through automated Python scripts that exploit phishing emails and cloud services to hide malicious activities. Attackers use social engineering tactics, such as fake malicious PDFs, to deceive victims into downloading malware that gains persistent access. Meanwhile, GravityRAT, active since 2016, is a sophisticated malware targeting organizations and government agencies, primarily in India, but with a broader reach. It infects multiple platforms, including Windows, Android, and macOS, by disguising malicious files and checking for virtual environments to avoid detection. Once inside, it extracts sensitive data like files and messages, sending it back to attackers via a control panel. Both threats highlight the need for organizations to implement layered security strategies, remain vigilant about unusual activities, and scrutinize the use of cloud services to prevent infiltration and data theft. CTIX analysts will continue to report on the latest malware strains and attack methodologies.
