OVH, the largest hosting provider in Europe with thirty-two (32) data centers and over one million customers, experienced an outage due to router configuration issues during planned maintenance. OVH released a statement stating they did not expect any outage during the maintenance time as the impacted devices were supposedly isolated before the change. The error occurred in the “DC to VH (US-EAST)” network which was being upgraded to withstand DDoS attacks that have increased significantly in the past few days. The configuration error caused an issue with the entire backbone of the network, taking down all IPv4 infrastructure operated by the company. Over the morning of October 13th, OVHcloud teams isolated the equipment and were able to restore connection to their infrastructure.
