Apple has released a patch for iOS and iPadOS 15.0.2 that fixed a zero-day exploit being actively exploited in the wild. The vulnerability, identified as CVE-2021-30883, exists in IOMobileFrameBuffer, a kernel extension that is accessible from the app sandbox and in many applications. This means it has the potential to break out of the iPhone’s security controls and jailbreak the device. The vulnerability is a simple integer overflow which allows remote code execution with kernel privileges. Apple confirmed that there are reports of this vulnerability being currently exploited in the wild, though they did not list specific campaigns. Many devices are impacted, including older devices and newer models. Though not widely exploited, Apple urges every user to update to the newest version, 15.0.2, due to the severity of this vulnerability.
