Anonymous Compromises Domain Registrar ‘Epik’

The widely known ‘Anonymous’ hacktivist group has compromised the databases of Epik, a web hosting/registrar provider that is home to several right-wing websites including but not limited to ‘The Donald’, ‘Gab’, and ‘Parlor’. The campaign, which was successfully executed back in late February, was announced on the internet forum ‘4chan’. According to their blog post, hacktivists were able to exfiltrate “A decade’s worth of data from the company. That’s right, everybody.” Additionally, group members have encouraged security researchers, reporters, and activists to parse the dataset and gather reconnaissance information on domains linked to terrorist sites, nation-state cybercrime groups, and Nazi sites. While the statement from Anonymous was directed toward Epik, the group also alluded to another upcoming campaign, dubbed #OperationJane. This operation is expected to be geared toward the state of Texas, surrounding their new law, Senate Bill 8, which restricts women’s abortion rights. CTAPT will be monitoring any additional updates surrounding the Epik database leak as well as the campaign #OperationJane.
