Update: Accenture, a global Fortune 500 consulting company based in Ireland, recently confirmed that the LockBit ransomware group exfiltrated data during an attack that occurred in August 2021. The company confirmed this in their fourth quarter and full fiscal year financial report, which is linked below and annotated by BleepingComputer. Accenture stated, “In the past, we have experienced… data security incidents resulting from unauthorized access to our and our service providers’ systems and unauthorized acquisition of our data and our clients’ data including: inadvertent disclosure, misconfiguration of systems, phishing ransomware or malware attacks”. The company also confirmed in their report: “During the fourth quarter of fiscal 2021, we identified irregular activity in one of our environments, which included the extraction of proprietary information by a third party, some of which was made available to the public by the third party” as well as “our clients have experienced… breaches of systems and cloud-based services enabled by or provided by us.” It is speculated that, due to individuals associated to Accenture not receiving data breach notification letters, no personal identifiable information (PII) or protected health information (PHI) were compromised during the attack.
