Threat actors have hit cryptocurrency hard this week, with several hackers targeting several aspects of the blockchain gaming company VulcanForge. Attacks from these actors hit investors of the company the hardest when they stole over $135 million in current investments. In total there were ninety-six (96) wallets that were compromised which led to the theft of 4.5 million PYR (VulcanForge’s token) which is currently valued at $31 prior to the attack; currently resides at $24 post-attack. The attacker(s) have already sold a significant amount of PYR tokens in exchange for Ethereum (ETH), with roughly $2 million still sitting in an untouched wallet. Since the attack, VulcanForge has fully reimbursed over half the affected accounts with their own LAVA tokens alongside PYR tokens for those who lost ETH and MATIC from the compromise. As of now there is no confirmed threat actor attributed to this compromise, however CTIX is monitoring the situation and will provide additional insight when applicable.
