On one of the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands, Tenerife, members of the Italian mafia stole and laundered more than €10 million (~11.73 million USD) using various cybercrime schemes such as SIM swapping, phishing, and vishing attacks. Led by members of the Italian Neapolitan mafia family, individual members have also been linked to four other Italian mafia organizations, the Camorra Napolitana, Nuvoletta, Casamonica, and Sacra Corona Unita families. The Spanish National Police have been tracking the group since June 2020 and with the help of the Italian Nation Police, Europol, and Eurojust they made 106 arrests. Police were also able to seize eighty (80) SIM cards that were to be used in future attacks, 224 credit cards, and froze 118 bank accounts.
